The surroundings
The Lot-et-Garonne is known as the Tuscany of France. The hills look like they’re covered with a patchwork blanket of parcels that are used in a different way. Grass land alternates agriculture, stock-breeding and orchards. There’s a pleasant climate with long, hot summers and a long spring and autumn.
The prehistoric caves, situated up-high castles, chateaux and the well preserved medieval walled towns remind a rich past.
There are several big cities to experience French urban life. Bordeaux and Toulouse are both within reach and offer you the most modern and hippest shops. Bordeaux also offers you its world famous wine castles that organize often tastings. The less known wine areas of Bergerac and Cahors organize the same sort events. The cities themselves are also worth a visit. Lourdes is also an attraction and definitely worth a visit. A little closer you’ll find Villeneuve sur Lot. This small country town offers you nice little shops, a water ski centre and many nice (and good!) restaurants. Almost every day of the week you can visit a market in one of the scenic villages around here. Many villages also have an antique shop.
In July and August there are many night markets organised. At such a night market food is available that has been prepared at location. You can than enjoy your meal at tables while listening to live music.
The sporty tourist can also find enough things to do. You can fish in the river Lot and also rent a boat. This area is very suited to walk, cycle or use your mountain bike. There is a golf course in about 8 miles and a tennis court in about 1,5 mile.
As you can tell, there are a lot of things to do for all ages!
